Animoca Brands’ Portfolio Investments Surpass US$1.5B

Hong Kong-based game software and venture capital company Animoca Brands has announced that its portfolio investments – spread across more than 340 investments – are now worth over US$1.5 billion as of 30 April 2022.

Animoca reported a cash balance of US$98 million (up 172% from September 2021) and digital assets holdings of US$211 million (up 88% from September 2021) in the form of ETH, BTC, USDC, USDT and BUSD, as well as third-party tokens worth US$659 million as of 30 April 2022.

The company’s digital asset reserve, which includes Animoca Brands tokens such as SAND, QUIDD, PRIMATE, REVV, TOWER, GMEE, is valued at US$4.2 billion, up nearly 45% from September 2021.

“We firmly believe that Web3 represents the natural evolution of the Internet, of a future where digital property rights and the resulting economic freedom will empower billions of online users in an interconnected series of open worlds and platforms,” co-founder Yat Siu said in a statement.

Earlier this year, the company raised US$360 million at a valuation of US$5.5 billion, in a funding round led by Liberty City Ventures with contributions from the likes of Winklevoss Capital, Soros Fund Management, and 10T Holdings.

The company’s portfolio of blockchain-based investments and partnerships also includes 150 NFT-related projects, such as play-to-earn game Axie Infinity, Dapper Labs, and NFT trading platform OpenSea. It also has a majority stake in metaverse game The Sandbox.
