Malaysia is playing host to potentially the world's largest Bitcoin pizza party to mark Bitcoin Pizza Day.
On 22 May 2010, a now infamous programmer bought two large pizzas with 10,000 BTC. "I'll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day," - Laszlo Hanyecz, the programmer, said at the time.
At the time of purchase, 10,000 BTC was worth around US$40. That trade is now worth $27,9032,000. In 2021, Bitcoin reached its all time high of $68,789.63, making Hanyecz's pizzas worth over $687 million at its peak. The sale has since become a momentous date in the Bitcoin maxi calendar.
To commemorate the date this year, 500 local cryptocurrency and bitcoin enthusiasts will gather under one roof to eat, network, celebrate and party on 3 June 2023 in Malaysia.
Presented by CryptoBilis in collaboration with Polygon guild Malaysia, Bitcoin Malaysia, and Cryptocurrency Malaysia, the event starts at 6pm at Sentul Warehouse 1, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. Tickets starts at RM 99.
Attendees will experience the journey of Bitcoin's development from local industry representatives and community leaders, whilst enjoying free flow pizza, personalized NFTs and other giveaways.
Almost 20 exhibitors from local and foreign web3 enterprises will be present at hte event. Around 500 people are expected to attend.
"Bitcoin Pizza Day serves to remember and celebrate a milestone, a test passed, a level-up for the most important cryptocurrency. But it is also a reminder that small things, however insignificant they may seem, can initiate great transformations in the world," said Jason Chew of Polygon Guild Malaysia.
