Crypto Jobs Pay 153% More Than Other Jobs Including AI

Crypto careers offer lucrative pay: roles average 153% higher than other industries, with remote jobs at $173K+ and top positions reaching $1M+

If you don't already work in crypto but like money, you might want to consider a career shift. According to a new study, salaries in crypto roles are 153% higher than the average for other industries.

NFTEvening's look into 1,169 jobs that are related to crypto/blockchain uncovered that even within the tech sector, crypto professionals earn significantly more, with an average salary increase of 46%. Additionally, these roles pay nearly 16% more than AI-related positions.

In the US, New York tops the chart with Quantitative Portfolio Manager roles being paid up to $1 million and an average of $184,946. The state also dominates the crypto job market, comprising 23.87% of all postings.

Minnesota takes the bottom position with an average crypto salary of $86,669, signalling a pay gap with New York of 113.4%.

Engineering and IT dominate crypto job openings, constituting nearly 43% of postings. Software engineers earn an average of $209,000 annually, which is 78% higher than their counterparts in traditional tech roles.

Other prominent roles include blockchain developers, protocol engineers, and cybersecurity experts.

Even remote work, which represents 43% of job postings, has an average salary of over $173,000. Meanwhile, on-site work will get an average of more than $143,000.

Analysis & Research jobs are on average the highest-paying jobs in the sector, at around $241,000. Finance & Accounting follows closely, with lead roles averaging $222,000. This category underscores the industry's reliance on financial strategy and compliance expertise.

IT & Engineering offers an average annual salary of $199,000, highlighting the demand for advanced programming, blockchain development, and cybersecurity skills while Management & Operations, Business Development, and Marketing & Communications will fetch $195,000, $183,000, and $169,000respectively. A Vice President of Engineering in IT & Engineering can earn over $400,000.

In Business Development, the Vice President of Sales earns approximately $565,000 annually, while in Finance & Accounting, the Chief Financial Officer averages $500,000 per year.

Paid & Performance Marketing command competitive pay, with salaries reaching $289,500 annually. Meanwhile, in Management & Operations, the Group Product Manager position offers remarkable compensation, with salaries reaching $657,000.

However, according to analytics firm Coincub, Bitcoin-related jobs plummeted over 95% in 2024 whilst crypto-related positions were down 90%. The US alone experienced an 84% decline. Blockchain-related jobs fell 50% too.

“The numbers are crushing down in a straight line,” Coincub’s CEO, Sergiu Hamza said in an interview, adding that these are consistent with a wide swathe of crypto-native companies reducing headcounts in recent months.

That said,  Blockchain.com announced plans to expand its workforce by 25% despite starting the year with laying off 28%. Listed jobs include a talent acquisition manager in Paris, as well as new hires in Lithuania, the US, Singapore and London.

Singapore-based crypto exchange, PayBito also announced plans to expand its staff by 50% in its Dubai and Singapore offices.

A recent report from Primus Partners suggests Web3 can unlock 8 million job opportunities in India over the next decade by creating an employment base of 2 million high-paying direct jobs and a 3x multiplier on indirect jobs.
