On the year's final trading day, global stocks declined, but they still saw their largest yearly gain since 2019.

In the year's final two months, global stock prices surged due to a decline in benchmark bond rates, which was attributed to anticipation of rate reduction by central banks in 2024.

The S&P 500 dropped by around 0.3% on Friday, falling just short of the all-time closing high set on January 3, 2022.

This year's huge gain in megacap tech firms helped the index end up with gains of around 24%.
